Hello, I am Susan Elizabeth Lippe.
Doctorate Work: I’m studying Hebrew Bible with my mentor Dr. Tamara Eskenazi at Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion.
Before my career switch, I worked as a rabbi-educator at two synagogues, for six years in California and for seven years in Texas. I think you can still find some of my sermons in the sermon archive of Congregation Beth Am of Los Altos Hills, California.
Now I mostly read biblical scholarship, and I’m learning to write.
I volunteer with Celia Israel’s campaign for Mayor of Austin, Texas. Sometimes, I also take photographs, cook foods, crochet gifts, and do experiments in the garden. I am particularly interested in pollinators and growing foods. I am incredibly grateful for the friends who are sticking with me during all this homework.
If you are looking for someone to study sacred texts with, please let me know. I love talking about Hebrew Bible, Quran, and New Testament with people who want to wrestle with meaning and who are comfortable with questions and curiosity. My friend Margaret and I really like teaching about the Book of Judges and crafting other interfaith text discussions.
Yes, I am still a rabbi. I am interested in working with you for happy or sad life cycle events like weddings and funerals. Yes, I am still a teacher. I tutor mostly young people in Hebrew and other Jewish stuff. I also really enjoy invitations to speak at churches and university or seminary classes.
Thank you for time and attention. I know you have many choices about what you can read on line! Thank you also for your thoughtful feedback!
Susan!
